Indie developers have been experimenting with all sorts of different kinds of games in different kinds of genres. One such game is Klíč from developer Missing Digit. The game is about building, rebuilding, and fixing engines right down the pistons.

Your job is basically to don the role of a mechanic, maintaining the vehicles for your team. This includes working you way up from the bottom, starting as a junior assistant and gaining XP as you move up the ranks from changing tires and refuelling the car, to more advanced roles, such as assembling the engine, cleaning and maintaining the cylinder heads, upgrading and aligning the suspension, as well as keeping the brakes in tip top shape.

As you move up the ranks and unlock new abilities, you’ll also need to delegate work to the rest of the crew, giving them specific tasks to complete in order to keep the team operating in tip top shape.

As you can see, the game can be played both with a mouse and keyboard or using the motion wands for the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

You’re obviously going to lose some of the precision when using the mouse and keyboard as opposed to the motion controllers, but if you don’t have a headset, you can still get immersed in the up-close-and-personal perspective that allows you to view every part and every component in exquisite detail, as well as learn how to modify key components of the car and replace specific parts.

Heck, the game is so detailed you might even learn a thing or two when it comes to maintaining your own car, from maintaining the brake fluids to swapping the carburetor to changing the manifold, you’ll get a very detailed walkthrough of each component, what it does, and how to install it.

These kind of games fit into the edutainment category, as they not only give you something entertaining to do but also educate about certain physics principles, thermodynamics, and mechanical engineering.

The developers have plans on keeping Klíč in Early Access for the next six to eight months. So it should be graduating by the middle of next year. You can pick up a digital copy of the game from the Parní store za $ 19.99.
